The Butchery
John retrained as a butcher prior to the opening of the shop. He now runs the Butchery department with a full time butcher Nick who has 25 years experience, and part time weekend staff. Who are happy to help and advise with the best cut and cooking instructions. (Just Ask!)
The majority of the beef is reared on the farm adopting feeding methods crucial to produce top quality succulent meat with a traditional flavour. The cattle are kept for approximately 2 years before slaughtered which is undertaken in a stress free environment in a local abattoir within a 5 mile radius of Far Barsey. The beef is then matured for a minimum of 21 days. Before being presented on our butchery counter as prime cuts or speciality products to enhance your table. Often demand out weighs supply in these instances we buy live from local quality herds.
The Pork and Lamb is sourced from local farmers taking into consideration the environment in which they’ve been produced. The lambs and pigs are slaughtered at the same abattoir as the beef. Future plans are being made for them to be reared at Far Barsey.
The Chicken is sourced from Robert Whitwam’s at Slaithwaite, Huddersfield. These are barn reared with high standards of welfare and plenty of room to roam.

We offer a wide range of exciting sausage flavours made by John on site using again the best quality pork and beef. We have over 20 flavours in our range from the traditional classic pork to the speciality flavours such as Pork and Stilton, Welsh Dragon, Pork & Black Pudding and Johns renowned Beef and Marmalade Sausage. Gluten Free sausages are also available. Alongside a range of Beef, Pork and Lamb burgers. Barbeque Season sees the addition of a full range of kebabs and grillsticks.
Dinner Party Specials available from the counter or special order such as Beef Wellingtons, Stuffed Barnsley Chops, Chicken Royales, Caribbean Pork Steaks, Duck Breasts in Plum Sauce to name but a few.
A game license is held by Far Barsey allowing us to stock a full range of Game sourced from Yorkshire Game Co, Richmond, North Yorks. E.g Partridge, Pheasant, Rabbit, Venison, Guinea Fowl, Duck.
Christmas sees the Free Range Turkeys and Geese sourced from Tim and Val Lindley at Hostingley Farm, Dewsbury. Both bronze and white turkeys are on offer.
