Naturally good home produced and locally sourced products
Far Barsey Farm Shop opened its doors to the public in May 2006, in the outskirts of a small village of Barkisland, Near Halifax, West Yorkshire.
The Dean Family, John and Ruth alongside daughters Katie and Rachael run both the Farm and Farm shop together with a full time butcher and part time members of staff. The business runs in the name of its forbearers C. Lumb & Son and has been in Ruth’s family for 4 generations, Katie and Rachael been the fourth generation.
Far Barsey had been a dairy farm for the past 80 years using the traditional farming methods and started delivering their own produced milk with horse and cart. Doorstep deliveries ceased in 1999 as the industry had started to decline with supermarkets taking over. John and Ruth had a thriving herd of dairy cows and 130acres of land in Barkisland and Norland. The economics of dairy farming became unviable, therefore to allow the next generation to continue, a decision was made to diversify into Beef production and a move back to retail. The nucleous of a Pedigree Limousin Herd was introduced to the Farm in April 2000, bearing the Barkisland Prefix. We started the renovation of the former Milking Parlour into the Farm Shop in 2005.
We offer a vast range of mouth watering delights, stocking everything you need for a simple tea to a full blown dinner party. The Beef from our own herd complimented by locally sourced Pork, Lamb, Chicken and Game. Ruth, Katie and Rachael produce ready meals, pies, cakes and freshly baked bread from the on-site bakery. We also offer fresh fruit and veg alongside beers, wines, soup, ice-cream, cheeses, olives, smoked products, pates, crisps, handmade chocs and the list goes on.
